ANALYSIS: Ben Roethlisberger has been slinging to start the season, and it looks like second-year receiver Sammie Coates has caught the quarterback's fancy. In 2015, Coates played in seven games and was targeted twice for one reception and eleven yards.
In Week 1 against the Redskins this year, he saw an immediate increase in attention as he was targeted three times and totaled 56 yards on two catches. Then, in Week 2 against the Bengals, it was made clear that Coates was a high priority. He caught two passes on five targets, and his yards per catch went from 28 to 45 on his 97 receiving yards. He was also given one carry in the backfield that he took for six yards. The Pittsburgh offense is clicking, and Coates is getting attention all over the field. With Big Ben's arm, Coates could become a weekly big-play threat if he continues to see plenty of targets.
