BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 5% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Sammy Long isn't the typical reliever to qualify for the weekly ranks of worthwhile additions, but the numbers suggest he packs much more promise than you would initially think. The 25-year-old lefty out of Sacramento State has started his MLB career with a 5.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 1.61 FIP, and above-average marks for strikeout rate (29.4%) and walk rate (5.9%) in 9.0 IP over two appearances. Long already had 2021 stints at Double-A and Triple-A before receiving the MLB call from the Giants, overall netting a 1.99 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts in just 22.2 IP in six appearances, five starts.
Long has yet to allow a home run, and that is particularly encouraging when you call Oracle Park your home field. His go-to pitches are his fastball, which he throws 41.8% of the time at a mild 92.8 MPH, and his curve, which he deploys 39.6% of the time and at 75.5 MPH, at pitch values of 2.1 and 1.2 respectively. In this current long-relief role, as a starter, or as a higher-leverage relief arm, Sammy Long's recent pedigree supports him as an interesting addition in deeper leagues.
