The Houston Astros officially placed Scott Feldman on the 60-day DL, which ends the starting pitcher’s season.
The right-hander was pitching well until right shoulder pain knocked him out of his last start on Sept. 2 against the Seattle Mariners after allowing three runs in less than three innings pitched. Feldman was already ruled out for the season but the move officially opens a spot on the Astros 40-man roster. Matt Duffy has been called up to fill Feldman’s spot in the roster.
Feldman was 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA this season. Before his last start, he allowed four runs over 20 innings pitched. It’s bad timing considering the Texas Rangers have climbed to within half a game for first place in the AL West.
Duffy will provide depth at the corner infield positions. This rookie isn’t the same rookie playing for the San Francisco Giants. The Astros Duffy posts a .294/.366/.484 batting line with 20 HR and 104 RBI in 127 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 26-year-old could very well get playing time down the final stretch and potentially make the postseason roster.
