According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio, the Seattle Mariners and second baseman Rickie Weeks have agreed to a one-year, $2 million Major League deal.

The deal is pending a physical.
When the agreement is completed, expect Rickie Weeks to take the spot of All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano when he is given a day off. In addition, there has been some speculation that Weeks may be able to man the corner outfield positions if needed. If he shows he can be a capable defender in the corner outfield positions, it would be to the benefit of the Mariners in place of left fielder Dustin Ackley.
Against left-handed pitchers in 2014, Dustin Ackley has hit .212/.255/.298 with just one home run. By comparison, against left-handed pitchers in 2014, Rickie Weeks hit .256/.361/.504 with seven home runs.
Once an All-Star in 2011, the now 32-year-old Weeks is not the player he once was when he was a key contributor from 2010 to 2012, including a career-high 29 home runs in 2010. Despite a 2012 season with 21 home runs; his average saw a steep decline of 39 points and it declined yet again in 2013. Last season, Weeks would lose his regular spot in the field at second base with Scooter Gennett seeing success but Weeks did have a solid .274/.357/.452 in a platoon role with the Milwaukee Brewers.
