BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 36% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Sergio Romo has been a man of many talents this season, pitching as a starter, middle reliever, and closer for Tampa Bay. In fact, Romo was the first 'opener' that the Rays employed this season, opening the game against the Angels in May. These days, though, Romo is back to his traditional role as a reliever and is now closing game for the Rays.
Romo is 1-2 with a 4.34 ERA this season, but seven of those saves have come since June 1 and he has a 1.69 ERA in 16 innings in the same time span. Much of his success should be attributed to his 87.3% strand rate and, while he only has 12 strikeouts since June 1, he has also allowed only 14 base runners.
As it has been said many times, there are only 30 closer jobs in baseball and, in most H2H leagues, saves are still a key weekly category. That being said, Romo needs to be owned in more than 36% of leagues, as he is the closer for the Rays. Fantasy owners may also get a boost with Romo frequently pitching more than one inning of effective baseball.
