BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 33% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Rookie Shane McClanahan has started off his MLB career to the tune of some fantastic results out of the Tampa Bay rotation. The 24-year-old lefty has thrown 22.1 innings over the course of five starts, so far netting a 4.03 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, while his peripheral numbers manifest a 3.51 FIP. McClanahan has had his struggles in quality of contact, allowing a 90.7 MPH average exit velocity, 47.4% hard hit rate, and 3.3% home run rate.
However, the Rays rookie has more than made up for the difference in damage control, creating 44.8% grounders, with a walk rate of just 7.7%, and a strikeout rate of 28.6%. McClanahan has electricity in his repertoire: a 97.4 MPH fastball that he deploys 42.4% of the time for a pitch value of 0.2, and a ridiculous 90.3 MPH slider he throws a boisterous 45.1% of the time for a pitch value of 2.3. Now that he is starting to get busier in terms of IP per outing, Shane McClanahan now has the volume needed to make his excellent ratios start to add up, and is an acquisition of potentially significant value in moderately sized leagues.
