BALLER MOVE: Add as RB/flex depth
OWNED IN: 68% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Some weeks it's Shane Vereen, some weeks it's Rashad Jennings. Or Andre Williams. Or now Orleans Darkwa. The New York Giants run game is certainly one of the most frustrating situations in all of fantasy football, but Vereen generally offers the most upside, due in no small part to his receiving ability.
In Sunday's shootout loss to the New Orleans Saints, Vereen tied for the team lead with nine targets. He turned those into eight receptions for 60 yards, including a two-yard touchdown. It was Vereen's third eight-catch game of the season, all of which made him a viable fantasy starter in those weeks. The downside, however, is that Vereen has had four games of one or fewer (i.e. zero) receptions. Weeks like that can derail even the best fantasy lineup.
Moving forward, the confounding conundrum that is the Giants' backfield isn't likely to radically change, barring an injury. Vereen holds greater value in PPR leagues, but with anticipated high-scoring matchups against Tampa Bay and New England coming up before the Week 10 bye, he can certainly be rostered in the majority of leagues and deployed as a flex play in some of them.
