The Boston Red Sox activated OF Shane Victorino from the 15-day DL on Monday and will plug him right back into the lineup as the team begins a three-game series in Oakland against the Athletics, according to the Boston Herald.
The veteran outfielder will play right field and bat in the seven-hole against Scott Kazmir on Monday, according to MLB.com.
The 34-year-old will likely get most of his starts against left-handers since Boston called up Jackie Bradley Jr. The 25-year-old outfielder will probably see most of his starts against the right-handers.
Victorino started the season badly before landing on the DL with a strained hamstring. In 12 games, he had a .143 BA and only one extra base hit. His upside is he is a veteran presence in the lineup that could also play solid defense.
His woes continued in two games with Double-A Portland, going 0-for-7. In his two previous seasons, Victorino had a .294 and .268 BA, respectively, but last year was an injury-plagued season.
If he continues to struggle, it could leave a permanent spot for Bradley as well as possibly open the door for Rusney Castillo to come up from the minors.
