ANALYSIS: Shelvin Mack has long been a backup point guard in the NBA and for the most part has served in a limited role. However, this season for the Memphis Grizzlies has seen the "Mack-Attack" on the floor more than he ever has been in an NBA season. In averaging 25.8 minutes per game behind Mike Conley, he is actually beating out his previous career-best MP by a margin of four minutes, and he has taken fantastic advantage of this presented opportunity. So far in nine games played, Mack has been averaging 12.0 points, 1.1 steals, and 3.8 assists per contest. What is far-more impressive is just how pinpoint-accurate he has been from all over the field. His effective field goal percentage of .625 is second-best on the team to among players who have more than nine attempted field goals, only to Wayne Selden. Not only that, but Mack has been red-hot from beyond the arc to the tune of 1.3 three-pointers per game at a success rate of 54.5%, which is best on the roster by a considerable margin.
Even though Mack has yet to start a single game for the Grizz, he still is among team-leaders in all of his statistical categories of strength. He currently ranks third on the team in total assists (34), fourth in total steals (10), and fourth in total points (108) despite having significantly fewer minutes played than those on the team in front of him like Conley, Marc Gasol, and Garrett Temple. One drawback to taking a chance on Mack is the sustainability of his current level of offensive production. His current three-point percentage is drastically higher than his previous career-best mark for a season, which was 36.7% all the way back in the 2012-2013 campaign. Even still, with his current volume of playing time in conjunction with his dead-eye shooting and the most well-rounded play of his career, Shelvin Mack is a dangerous asset off of the Memphis bench.
