Is Devin Duvernay A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 2? Waiver Wire Outlook

Devin Duvernay - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

The Baltimore Ravens entered 2022 with a notable hole at the No. 2 wide receiver spot. After Week 1, we might have some idea of who will fill that hole.

Third-year receiver Devin Duvernay found the end zone twice in the team's Week 1 win over the New York Jets.

Is this a sign of things to come for Duvernay? Should you pick him up in fantasy leagues after his Week 1 showing?

What Did Devin Duvernay Do In Week 1?

Devin Duvernay is a third-year receiver out of Texas. Before Sunday, Duvernay had just three other games with four receptions, and the most yards he had ever had in an NFL  game were 45.

That means that on Sunday, Duvernay tied his career high in catches while also setting new best marks in yards (54) and touchdowns (two).

Duvernay made some big catches. He made catches in traffic. It was about as good a start to the season as he could have had.

Were There Any Worrying Signs With Devin Duvernay In Week 1?

It wasn't all good for Duvernay, though.

The raw numbers look good, but he was only targeted four times, accounting for a 14% target share, which is pretty low for a No. 2 receiver.

He also ran just 18 total routes:

Both of those things are really worrisome. You like what Duvernay did with the four targets he got, but you also have to worry about the fact that he was only on the field for 52% of the team's snaps.

Should I Pickup Devin Duvernay Off the Waiver Wire in Fantasy Football?

The ESPN projection sure seems to think so:

But all kidding aside, Duvernay earning the trust of Lamar Jackson in crucial situations is definitely something to take note of. He won't do this every week, but there's a real dearth of options in this passing game.

If—and it's a big if—Duvernay's production on Sunday convinces the coaching staff to get him involved on more routes, then he can have some more big games.

It will be too early to feel confident starting him in Week 2, but Duvernay is the kind of player you want on your bench just in case this Week 1 production is a sign of things to come.
