Span (Back) To Be Activated Tuesday

Denard Span is expected to rejoin the Washington Nationals on Tuesday when they play the San Diego Padres for a three-game series, according to The Washington Post.

It will be the first time Span is in a Nationals uniform since July 7. The speedy outfielder has been sidelined for a month and a half because of a reoccurring back injury. There will be no better time for him to rejoin the Nats because they currently sit 5.5 games out of first place in the NL East, which was once theirs for most of the season.

In 59 games this season, Span has a .304 BA with a .798 OPS, 5 HR, 22 RBI and 11 SB. The 31-year-old has had his share of physical issues that his kept him off the field. When he’s healthy, he’s an important piece in the Washington lineup.

In eight MLB seasons, he owns a career .287 BA with 6 HR, 57 RBI and 26 SB over a 162-game average. Michael Taylor will likely be the one that suffers because Span will get most of the starts at center while Taylor will be regulated to fill-in and bench duties for Span, Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper.
