Stanton (Hand) Begins Rehab Assignment: Aims For Friday Return

Giancarlo Stanton is targeting a Friday return to the Miami Marlins lineup after being out since late June.

The star outfielder has been dealing with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. Stanton will begin a minor league rehab assignment this week before he rejoins the team.

The three-time All-Star has only played in 74 games this season. Despite that, the 25-year-old had 27 HR and 67 RBI with a .265 BA and .952 OPS. When he’s healthy, Stanton is one of the best in the game.

Stanton could be in the lineup for Class A Advanced Jupiter on Tuesday. The scheduled game on Monday against Fort Myers has already been postponed.

"Hopefully, he can have some at-bats, test his wrist and see where he is," Marlins manager Dan Jennings told MLB.com.

The Marlins aren’t going anywhere near the postseason this year, though Stanton is by far their biggest draw for ticket sales. Stanton will try to put buts in seats for the last month of the season for a team that only has 52 wins.
