Blue Jays Bullpen (RP, TOR) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Continue Scouting

ANALYSIS: Sergio Santos took the BS, L last night after giving up 3 runs on 2 HR to Pedro Alvarez (tying the game) and Starling Marte (winning the game).  Santos has now allowed 6 ER in his last 2 outings, and has a 10.61 ERA on the year. His magnificent 16.39 K/9 is brought back down to earth by his equally ugly 8.68 BB/9 and ridiculous 2.89 HR/9 rate.  In the land where small sample sizes rule, Closer Land, Santos is nearly dead. There is not a clear alternative to take the reigns in the Toronto bullpen, and it's quite possible they'll go with a committee until Casey Janssen returns healthy in a few weeks. The three names you should be on the lookout for are Steve Delabar, Brett Cecil, and Aaron Loup. Delabar and Loup have nearly as many BBs as they do Ks, and Cecil, who's been the most dominant by far, is a lefty. None of them are ideal closer candidates.  If Janssen has more setbacks, the smart money is on Santos getting a breather and then getting another crack at the closer gig in a few weeks - he has held it down before and has the skills to do so again.
