BALLER MOVE: Target ~ 125 (Current ADP: 142, WR: 51)
ANALYSIS: Much has been made of Steve Smith's departure from Carolina, but most of the discussion has revolved around how the Panther's will move forward without him. For the Ravens, the signing of Smith was essentially a delayed replacement of Anquan Boldin who was traded to San Francisco in a cost-cutting move after their 2012 Super Bowl win. He's been a welcome addition to the Raven's on and off the field, as he's been a great locker room presence and has provided Joe Flacco with a reliable target, bringing us back to replacing what Boldin had brought to the table.
This preseason, Steve has been showing he's still got something left in the tank, which he displayed with a sideline catch in which he broke several tackles for a 30-yard gain and a diving grab for a 24-yard touchdown against that team in Washington who's name we shall not speak. In total, Smith had six catches for 80 yards in just 30 minutes of work. As the clear cut #2 wide-out in Baltimore, Steve Smith will see plenty of single coverage as teams will try to take the threat of Torrey Smith out of the game with double coverage.
Many naysayers will point the fact that he's now 35 years old and had an "off-year" in 2013 with 745 yards and four touchdowns, but I'm here to to remind you that he's only two years removed from nearly 1200 yards, and now will not be facing constant double-teams as the offenses' only legitimate target. Smith is a nice sleeper a round or two earlier than his current ADP if you need a decent security blanket for riskier picks early in your draft.
