BALLER MOVE: Add / Stash in Deeper Leagues
Owned in 48% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Last week, Stevie Johnson had a breakout game for the 49ers as he caught all 9 of his targets from Colin Kaepernick for 103 total yards. Johnson benefited from TE Vernon Davis being out, and replacement tight end Derek Carrier only being targeted twice. It should be noted that Johnson was the #3 target behind Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin in Week 3, but will be pushed back to #4 again when Davis is back and healthy. With that looking like it’ll be Week 4, when the 49ers face the Eagles, I wouldn’t expect too much from Johnson with Davis back in the lineup.
Although Johnson is owned in 48% of Fleaflicker leagues, he is owned in only 5% of Yahoo leagues, and is worth a stash in deeper leagues. He was after all, a #1 wide receiver during his time in Buffalo and we've now seen how he could perform if any receivers were to miss time. However with the currently loaded receiving situation of San Francisco, there might not be enough targets for Johnson to sustain any consistent fantasy production. If Vernon Davis was to miss any more time though, any other receiver were to get injured, Johnson could emerge from our list of sleepers and provide more value off the wavier wire for fantasy owners, especially in PPR leagues.
