Analysis: Despite a combined 2,600 yards and 12 TDs in his final two seasons at UMass, Tajae Sharpe slipped to the 5th round of the 2016 NFL Draft and rewarded the Titans for their faith in Week One. Against the Vikings, Sharpe led the Titans in targets with eleven, receptions with seven, and receiving yards with 76. The really encouraging factor of Sharpe's first NFL game wasn't his pure performance, it was who he beat out by a mile. Star TE Delanie Walker, 4YR/$25.5MM RB Demarco Murray, and 45th overall pick RB Derrick Henry respectively had three receptions on five targets, five receptions on seven targets, and two receptions on two targets. Other than that, only three other receivers were targeted by Marcus Mariota. Andre Johnson had seven targets, Harry Douglas had five, and Rishard Matthews had four. Sharpe accounted for 27% of Mariota's targets, the Walker/Murray/Henry trio received 34% of the attention, and the Johnson/Douglas/Matthews trio received 39% of the targets. Given that Sharpe accounted for by far the most targets on the team and he accounted for 28% of Mariota completions while the rest of the receiving core combined for 32%, it is safe to say that he isn't a Week One Hit Wonder. He is just the Titans sneaky steal of the 2016 Draft, and he is going to get targeted a lot. PPR owners should act now while he is still available in half of leagues.
