Tampa Bay Rays Sign Grady Sizemore To Minor League Contract

The Tampa Rays signed Grady Sizemore to a minor league contract on Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The outfielder was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1 after a slumping .245/.288/.296 batting line with not a single homer in 39 games. Sizemore will report to the team’s spring training complex in Port Charlotte, Fla., according to the report.

The 32-year-old was once one of the biggest young stars in MLB when with the Cleveland Indians.  After four stellar seasons in a row with the Tribe, during which he had a season with 190 hits, 28 HR, and 81 RBI, Sizemore saw his efficiency come to an end. He also recorded 115 SB in those four seasons and three all-star appearances to go along with great defense.

Injuries have helped to turn his career in the wrong direction. In 2009, Sizemore played in only 106 games. He followed that with 33 in 2010 and 71 games in 2011. He was out of the game because of injuries for the entirety of the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Sizmore went onto sign with the Boston Red Sox in 2014 before going to Philly mid-season. His numbers weren’t horrendous but he has not found that all-star ability again.
