Tanaka (Hamstring) To Be Skipped For Next Start

Masahiro Tanaka will miss his next start because of a grade 1 hamstring strain.

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi made the announcement on Sunday. The right-hander will not pitch on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays for what could be a huge game in regards to the AL East standings.

It's unclear how long the issue will sideline him for, but he is expected to return this season. It’s been a season full of injuries yet Tanaka maintains a solid 3.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 136/26 K/BB ratio over 149 innings through 23 starts this season.

Tanaka has pitched well of late. He’s allowed three runs over his last three starts during which he pitched 21 innings.

Prior to Sunday night’s finale with the New York Mets, the Yankees trail the Blue Jays by three games in the division. They still hold a comfortable 3 1/2-game lead for the first Wild Card spot in the AL. They might need a healthy Tanaka to potentially pitch in the one-game Wild Card round. There’s no timetable on when Tanaka will pitch next.
