BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 46% of leagues
ANALYSIS: It's been a tale of two seasons for Tarik Skubal and it's caused many to overlook the Tigers hurler in fantasy. The 24-year-old lefty had an awful first month of the season and it's still reflected in his season-long stats, like his pedestrian 4.36 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. However, Skubal pitched to a 6.14 ERA in the month of April and has been much better since the calendar flipped.
Starting with his outing on May 7, Skubal is 4-3 with a 3.48 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts in just 44 innings. He's got a 3.24 xFIP and a 3.23 SIERA to support his ERA improvement, but it's the strikeout potential that should really excite fantasy baseballers. Skubal has a healthy 12 percent swinging-strike rate this season and induced 16 whiffs on just 91 pitches in his last start. He sports six pitches with whiff rates of at least 18.4 percent and uses all six pitches at least five percent of the time. He walks a few too many batters and will serve up some homers, but he's also struck out at least seven batters in six of his last eight starts, including an 11 K game versus the White Sox. Skubal should be added in any league he's still available and started in most matchups.
