ANALYSIS: Maybe all it took for the West Virginia product to break out was some semi-consistent play at quarterback. Outside of a horrendous performance against Green Bay last week, Nick Foles has been very solid for the Rams with a 63% completion percentage, five touchdowns, and just one interception.
Tavon Austin's usage has been consistent as well, as he's seen the field for 237 offensive snaps out of a total of 293 for the Rams on the year, which is 81% of the offensive snaps. Austin is targeted on average 4.4 times per game by Foles, and has scored three touchdowns while not dropping a single pass so far this season.
Austin is also multi-talented and has been lighting up opposing defenses from the backfield by gaining 99 yards and a touchdown on just 13 rushing attempts, good for an average of 7.6 yards per carry, and an average longest run per game of 14.75 yards.
On special teams, Austin has an average punt return of 16.7 yards and already has a 75-yard punt return touchdown against Seattle. Austin has the ability to find the end zone in three different aspects of offense for St. Louis. Maybe the "breakout star" tag will finally stick this season and net fantasy football managers some more consistent explosiveness.
