If you still own Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins in any redraft leagues, it’s time for you to drop him. He remained limited in practice this week and we have no reason to believe that he will play in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons.
If he doesn’t play, it will be the 10th straight game he has missed with a shoulder injury. It is actually quite stunning that the Bucs didn’t place him on injured reserve weeks ago.
The second-year tight end is super talented and at 6’5” he provides a huge target for Jameis Winston in the passing game. But none of that matters if he can’t get on the football field.
In the two games that ASJ has played this year, Winston utilized him as much as he could. ASJ has seven receptions for 139 yards and two touchdowns combined in the two games he has been able to participate in.
ASJ should still be owned in all dynasty and keeper leagues. He may be worth trying to trade for in those leagues too because his stock is likely low. But again, he has no value in redraft leagues.
Denver Broncos tight end Owen Daniels missed practice on Thursday with a knee injury, but nobody seems too concerned about his status for Week 13 against the San Diego Chargers. The veteran tight end doesn’t have much fantasy value, so even if he doesn’t play you shouldn’t be impacted too much.
Daniels has 33 catches for 362 yards and three touchdowns on the season, but since the team added Vernon Davis from the San Francisco 49ers, Daniels has become more of an afterthought. I would avoid starting Daniels at all costs in Week 13.
I don’t necessarily like recommending Davis as a starter either. But if you absolutely have to use him, I’d consider him a low-end TE2 at best.
San Diego Chargers tight end Ladarius Green is now 100 percent healthy and practicing in full. He returned to action last week after missing time with an ankle injury. In his return game he caught only two receptions for 28 yards.
Green is an ultra talented tight end, but Philip Rivers only throws him the football when Antonio Gates is out of the game. Because of that, I can’t consider green anything more than a low-end TE2.
Green does have 29 receptions for 342 yards and four touchdowns this season, but most of those catches came while Gates wasn’t playing.
Speaking of Gates, he can be considered a TE1. He has 33 receptions for 371 yards and four touchdowns through six games. He always has been and still is Rivers’ favorite target.
