Analysis: As Ryan Howard moves closer and closer to a merciful retirement, Tommy Joseph is moving closer to becoming a center piece of the Phillies rebuilding plan. In just 77 MLB at-bats, he has already hit seven home runs, has stolen one base in two attempts, and has produced a slash line of .286/.296/.584. Joseph strikes out a lot at 28.4% and walks extremely infrequently at just 2.5%, but with an isolated power figure of .299 it is clear that he makes the most out of all contact.
Joseph has seemingly had prevalent health issues told by the fact that in seven MiLB seasons he has just 1,869 AB. However in 556 A+ level at-bats Joseph hit 22 HR, in 493 Double-A at-bats he hit 16 HR, and in just 328 Triple-A at-bats he hit 12 HR. Joseph doesn't have a reputation as a base runner, but he has a 50% success rate in his two attempts this season, and due to his low walk rate he has seen just 17 stolen base chances. It may be possible that now that he has shaken his injury issues, he is feeling more up to running. With the rate that he is hitting HR however, exactly one per 11 AB, he has made his value extremely apparent to fantasy baseball managers and the Philadelphia organization.
