BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 3% of leagues
ANALYSIS: From Vanderbilt to Houston to Wrigley to Oakland: Tony Kemp has gotten a taste of some of the more unique baseball systems in the game on his journey to/through the MLB, and it's starting to pay impactful dividends surpassing even his 2018 season with the Astros. Other than a couple of nice stints here and there and some quiet power/speed numbers, Kemp's MLB career reads rather pedestrian; but as of this past Friday, Kemp has eleven XBH (seven doubles, two triples, two home runs), three steals in four tries, and a .275/.392/.417 slash in 120 AB for the 2021 campaign, split pretty evenly between the outfield and second.
Kemp isn't an intimidating presence in the box, but he knows exactly what to do with each pitch and batted ball to manifest offense. His 16.6% strikeout rate and 15.9% walk rate are bounds superior to the league average, and while his hard hit rate and average exit velocity won't garner an invite to the HR Derby, his 63.4% combined line drives and grounders maximize his odds of finding open grass, and then his base-running takes over to take extra bases, swipe bags, and score runs. With an excellent BA/OBP safety net, defensive versatility, and aggression on the base-paths for a first-place team, Tony Kemp is a sneaky addition with room to burgeon in deeper leagues.
