ANALYSIS: San Diego Padres outfielder Travis Jankowski only has a hit in two of his last five games, but his blinding speed is enough to get him on fantasy rosters. The former first round pick has a .324 batting average this month and his two triples and home run this month have seen his slugging percentage rise to .423 for the month. He has also stolen six bases in eight attempts, scoring 10 runs at the top of the Padres lineup.
The biggest reason that people are off of Jankowski is that he has a .415 BABIP this month, but he does have a decent 17% line drive rate. A hard hit rate of 14.8% means that his batting average is unlikely to stay in the .300s and a 73.6% ground ball rate shows that he is not driving the ball at all. However, this is not a particularly bad thing, as he does put himself in the position for infield hits.
Speed is why people should add Jankowski and as long as he is able to get on base, he will be able to make a difference on the basepaths. When compared to other players that are solely owned for speed, owning Jankowski in the short term may be better than a long term investment in Billy Hamilton.
