Travis Wood (SP, CHC) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add Immediately

ANALYSIS: Here are the only two things you need to know about Travis Wood. 1) He is a dominant pitcher. 2) He's somehow only owned in 50% of leagues. Go pick him up, immediately! Then come back and read this.....ok, now that Wood's ownership % is up a tick, here's why he's so dominant, and here's why you shouldn't think of "selling high" on him. Wood has increased the % of pitches he's throwing for first strike and the % of pitches he's throwing in the zone, meaning he's getting ahead of hitters and challenging them. And challenged they are - hitters are swinging at more of Wood's pitches outside the zone, and making less contact. He's challenging them and they're flailing at bad pitches.  Wood has also managed to improve his ground ball rate a lot, and anytime a pitcher is giving up less fly balls in the friendly confines of Wrigley, it's a good thing. Lastly, Wood's 5.29 K:BB ratio is borderline elite, and it means all the improvements we just highlighted are being validate by more strikeouts and less walks.  In short, Travis Wood is nailz. Go pick him up immediately, if not sooner!
