Analysis: It seems as the days go by, Trayce Thompson is starting to eclipse every other Dodger with the exception of Clayton Kershaw of course. In 145 AB this season, Thompson has a slash line of .269/.350/.531, has hit 10 HR, and swiped four bases. Thompson has an isolated power figure of .262 and a power/speed number of 5.7, and as he has proved with the White Sox and throughout the minor leagues, he has a proven track record of production in the power/speed department.
Even though his average is at just .269, Thompson has his OBP all the way up at .350 due to his improved walk percentage of 11%, and as a result, Thompson has reached base 61 times. Thompson may be batting for a lower average as he swings for the fences in pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium, but with his plate discipline and sense of the strike zone improving, he is reaching base and finding chances to grab steals. His improved approach at the plate is allowing Thompson to have his cake (Home Runs) and eat it too (reach base via walk and look for steals).
