BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 24% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Trevor Cahill has always had an extreme ground ball tendency, but in recent years he's developed into a pitcher who can rack up strikeouts as well. This transformation began when Cahill moved into a relief role, but he's managed to retain that ability to induce whiffs as he has transitioned back to the starting rotation. Though a brief stint on the disabled list keeps him from qualifying for the leaderboard, only 10 pitchers with at least 35 innings have a higher swinging strike rate than Cahill's 14.0%. While the 2018 sample is small at only six starts, Cahill has also done a better job at getting hitters to chase (and miss) pitches out of the zone, which has led to a walk rate much better than his career average.
Cahill currently boasts a 2.75 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, but is owned in just under a quarter of fantasy leagues. He'll take on the Diamondbacks at home in his next start; Arizona has surprisingly scored fewer runs than any team besides the Marlins and leads MLB in strikeout rate.
