ANALYSIS: Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Trevor Hildenberger is the closer for the Twins and, that alone, makes him a fantasy asset. There are a lot of things not to like about Hildy, the 4.55 FIP and 8.37 strikeouts per nine are a good start, but a closer is a closer.
Since the All-Star Break, Hildenberger has an ugly 7.56 ERA and has allowed at least one run in each of the last three appearances. While he earned a save in his last outing against the Tigers, he also allowed five runs in 1/3 of an inning against the Royals on September 14. While his strikeout issues are listed above, Hildy has whiffed at least one batter in five of the last six appearances. He has also walked just one batter in his last 6 1/3 innings. A 33.3% HR/FB rate for Hildenberger is poor, he has allowed seven home runs in his last 25 innings, but does lead to a 3.79 xFIP in the second half.
Hildenberger is a closer and saves are critical in the last weeks of the season. He might be among the lowest tier of closers, but he will still get you saves.
