ANALYSIS: Trey Mancini has gotten off to a record breaking start at the plate to begin his career. On Easter Sunday against the Orioles, Mancini got the start at first base and went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. Dating back to last season, he has seven HR and 14 RBI over the first 12 games of his major league career. Obviously he won't keep up this torrid pace, but it's impressive to see someone begin their career in this fashion. It should at least help him get more consistent playing time in the near future.
Mancini has only played in six of the Orioles first 11 games, but has clearly made the most of his opportunities. He has played in the outfield, first base, and at DH this season as Buck Showalter tries to find ways to get his bat in the lineup. His stats right now look amazing, but he is still striking out at a 31.6% rate, so expecting him to maintain his current .294/.368/.706 slash line seems optimistic. However, his average may not fall too far; in his minor league career he never displayed overwhelming power, but normally hit near the .300 mark. If he can get regular playing time moving forward he is a smart player to add while he's on fire offensively.
