The Minnesota Twins activated Phil Hughes from the 15-day DL on Tuesday and will start him on the mound against the Detroit Tigers.
Hughes, 29, has been out since Aug. 9 with a nagging back injury. The right-hander is cleared and ready to be back on the mound despite not partaking in any rehab assignments.
In 23 start this season, Hughes sports a 10-8 record with 4.49 ERA and 85/15 K/BB ratio over 144 1/3 innings this season. In his last start, he was rocked for seven runs on three innings pitched. It’s been an up and down season for the veteran but he couldn’t return at a better time because the Twins have climbed to within a game for the second Wild Card spot in the AL.
Minnesota will be going for its third straight win as it takes on a Tigers team that has dropped four of their last five games.
