The Minnesota Twins have called up Max Kelper from Double-A Chattanooga after Monday’s 8-1 victory over the Angels.
Kepler is the MVP of the Southern League with a .318/.410/.520 batting line, 9 HR, 71 RBI and 19 SB between High- and Double-A. The 22-year-old had a breakout season and is ready to play at the major league level. The problem is that there’s not really room for him.
The Twins are full in the outfield and at first base, which are the positions Kepler has played in the minors. His fantasy value won’t be there this season since he’ll likely only be used off the bench in Minnesota.
After a five-game losing streak, the Twins were able to knock off the Angels and pull to within three games for the second and final AL Wild Card spot. If Kepler produces when called upon and the Twins make the postseason, he could make the postseason roster. His true fantasy value of speed and power could be a sleeper-pick for 2016.
