The Minnesota Twins are “expected to look to bring back” A.J. Pierzynski for the 2016 season.
The veteran catcher had an amazing season for a 38-year-old catcher. Pierzynski finished the 2015 season with a .300/.339/.430 batting line with 9 HR and 49 RBI over 113 games for the Atlanta Braves.
Atlanta could look to re-sign him during the off-season. The Twins could be one of the teams in the sweepstakes and lure him into returning to the team that drafted him. Pierzynski hasn’t played with Minnesota since 2003. He’s played with six others clubs since.
Throughout his 18-year career, he has a .282 BA 15 HR and 73 RBI through 162 games. He’s proved that he can still swing the bat at a non-deep position.
If the Twins could land Pierzynski for next season, they would have a nice tandem of the veteran and Kurt Suzuki. The Twins were just shy of reaching the postseason, and this move could help get them over the hump. He could be used at DH too if need be.
