BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues
OWNED IN: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: As I write this, it's Monday, October 21st, 2019, and we don't yet have an update on the knee injury that forced Kerryon Johnson from Sunday's game against the Vikings.
But let's assume that Johnson will miss at least some time, as knee injuries aren't something to take lightly. In that case, expect rookie Ty Johnson to take over as Detroit's main back until Kerryon returns.
Johnson's numbers on Sunday weren't great -- 10 carries for 29 yards plus four catches for 28 yards -- but he had twice as many carries and one more target than the team's other running back, J.D. McKissic. McKissic is likely to siphon off some passing down work, but Johnson will be the early-down back until Kerryon Johnson returns, and he should see goal-line usage as well.
His ceiling isn't nearly as high as Kerryon's, but he's a solid floor play in Week 8 against the Giants if that's what you need him to be. The Lions want to keep running the ball, and Ty Johnson will have a chance to show that he can be a capable backup. He'd be worth a flex spot in a 12-team league if Kerryon Johnson is ruled out.
