Tyler Johnson (PG/SG, MIA) - Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 12-Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 35% of leagues

ANALYSIS: On a roster full of Swiss Army Knife-type players, Tyler Johnson held down a well-rounded stat line for three years now for the Miami Heat. Although his role on the team has been decreasing ever-so slightly over the last few years, Johnson is still averaging 11.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.0 steal per game in a wholesome 27.2 minutes per outing. Although his efficiency from three-point range has regressed to his worst percentage of his career at this early point in the season, he is still shooting 32.4% on his 4.3 attempts from downtown (his career percentage before this year was 37.1%). The encouraging news moving forward is that Johnson has stepped up lately for the Heat, both in the form of improved play and extended floor-time.

Over the last six games for Miami, the former Fresno product has averaged an impressive 15.0 points, 2.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game. In that six-game span, Johnson also went 12-30 from deep (40%), and played 30+ minutes in four of the six contests. He might be behind a few well-rounded guys on the team in role-prominence such as Justise Winslow, Josh Richardson, and Rodney McGruder, but "Bumpy" sees a huge uptick in opportunity with Goran Dragic out of the lineup dealing with knee issues. That leaves the door open for huge statistical evenings with his long-range stroke dialing in. As a multi-guard eligible asset that offers a little bit of everything on any given night, Tyler Johnson is a safe production play even on days when he'll have to sacrifice more playing time to Dragic.
