BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~165 Overall / Waiver Wire
CURRENT ADP: 180+ (Undrafted in 12-team leagues)
ANALYSIS: The last news regarding the battle-of-quarterbacks going on in LA between Taylor and rookie-QB Justin Herbert spoke about the freshman battling the veteran in training camp to get the starting gig come Week 1. That seemed a little bit optimistic for the rookie back then, and it still does now. That is why fantasy GMs keep banking on Taylor as the early starter as his ADP upward trend (small but sure) has shown lately. That, though, doesn't mean he's getting drafted in most 12-team, 1QB leagues.
For how long will Taylor remain as the starter for the Chargers, we don't know. But pretty much as Mitchell Trubisky in Chicago, he will start the first game of the season and then the team will go from there. PFF has the combination of Taylor and Herbert projected to reach 281 PPR points. That's an insane amount, but again, that's combining both players' points. If we assume Taylor gets the highest tally, he'd end with 185 points... good for QB30 in the ranks and 93th-best player in the season all positions considered.
Those numbers would make Taylor quite a value given his undrafted stock, but he'd also be the worst starter in the league. If your league-mates go crazy and all of them bench a quarterback through the draft, then go ahead and draft Taylor as your last-round player. If they don't, pass on him but make sure to make him your backup as he is a bonafide starter at least to start the year and the Chargers have some very nice offensive players around.
