Utley Clears Waivers, Free To Be Traded

Chase Utley has cleared revocable trade waivers, which means he could be traded to any MLB team.

The Philadelphia Phillies veteran second baseman does have a no-trade clause in his contract. So ultimately, Utley decides his own fate. The Giants, Cubs, Angels and Yankees are among the teams that may be interested in the 36-year-old.

Throughout his 13-year career, the lefty has made six All-Star appearances and has averaged a .281 BA with 24 HR and 96 RBI. Last year, Utley made the National League All-Star team but this year has by far been his worst. A new home could be what Utley needs as his career is starting to wind down.

Utley has a .190 BA with 4 HR and 28 RBI this season in limited action. Since his return from the DL, he’s gone 5-for-13 with 3 RBI. If he decides to stay, he’ll likely be a free agent at the end of the season because he didn’t reach the minimum number of at-bats in order for an extra year to kick in.
