Utley Plans To Return For 2016 Season

Chase Utley is planning to return for the 2016 MLB season.

The second baseman will likely not return with the Los Angeles Dodgers because the team is expected to decline Utley’s $15-million option for 2016 since he did not have 500 at-bats in 2015.

The 36-year-old has played for 13 years and hasn’t been healthy enough or produced enough to be in any team’s daily lineup. Despite any of that, Utley isn’t ready to call it a career.

"One hundred percent he is playing next year," said Utley’s agent Joe Wolfe told The New York Post.

Between the Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies in 2015, Utley had a .212/.286/.343 batting line over 423 plate appearances.

The left-handed slugger will also have to deal with the possibility of a suspension to start the season because of his takeout slide of Ruben Tejada during the NLDS. Utley appealed the suspension but if it is upheld, he would have to serve it to start the 2016 season.
