ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Vance McDonald had seven receptions on Sunday and appears to have fully grabbed the starting TE role in the Steel City. Talking about grabbing, McDonald has hauled in 20 of his 24 targets this season, providing a great safety blanket for Ben Roethlisberger. While Jesse James opened the season on fire for Pittsburgh, it is wise to move your TE shares to McDonald as of now.
McDonald made his impact on the season by demolishing Chris Conte when the Steelers traveled to Tampa for Monday Night Football, finishing that game with four catches for 112 yards, including a 75-yard TD. He has had at least five catches in two of his last three games since and has now been targeted five or more times in three of the last five games. Fumbles in two of the last three games are not ideal, but, with the consistent volume of targets, McDonald may be your answer in a messy TE pool.
The Steelers are on bye this week, leading some fantasy owners to potentially drop him for a player that can be used this week. If that is the case, pick him up, as he represents a top option in a murky TE field.
