Vance Worley (SP, PIT) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Most Leagues

ANALYSIS: Vance Worley has made quite a resurgence with the Bucs this year after getting rocked on a consistent basis to the tune of a 7.21 ERA in 2013 with the Twins. Now back in the National League, he has regained his form, with a 2.43 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched. He has essentially gotten rid of his changeup from his repertoire and increased the use of his curveball this year. It is not as if Worley is inducing more ground balls, but pitching in the pitcher's haven that is PNC Park, the fly balls he is allowing are not leaving the park. He also seems to have dramatically improved his command, leading to less walks, shorter innings, and, as a result, less baserunners overall. His BB/9 ratio has dropped from a 2.8 in 2013 to a 1.5 so far this year. As long as he is performing, there is no reason for Worley not to be owned in all but maybe the shallowest of mixed leagues where heavy strikeout pitchers may be all that's worth owning.
