Verlander Won't Return Till 'Mid-June'

Detroit Tiger fans will have to wait even longer for their former Cy Young and MVP-winner to rejoin the team, as Justin Verlander won’t likely return until mid-June.

The starting pitcher will undergo a third MRI early next week to see how much fluid and inflammation is remaining in his right triceps, according to FOX Sports. Even if Verlander is cleared to resume a throwing program next week, the Tigers won’t see him start until mid-June.

"The MRI is to make sure the fluid is completely out of there," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told FOX Sports Thursday. "With this injury, you may feel pain-free and not realize there is still fluid in the area. Until you get to that very last step (throwing at maximum effort) and it feels sore again."

According to the report, the 32-year-old will need a “full spring training" in order to rebuild his arm strength.

Verlander came out of a Spring Training game against the Jays on March 27 with the triceps pain.

In Verlander’s absence, Kyle Lobstein has gone 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA in three starts.
