Week 14 Waiver Wire: Second Base (2B) and Shortstop (SS)

Over the course of the season I’ll be giving you two players at second base and shortstop per week who I think can help your team. These players are usually widely available in any format, and should turn nice profits in the weeks to come.

As always, feel free to reach out to me directly @Roto_Dubs with any questions about the middle infield or fantasy baseball in general.

Editor's Note: RotoBaller offers the best Premium MLB Subscription - only $1.99 per week. All the tools you need to help win your seasonal and daily leagues: Hitter & Pitcher Streamers, Matchup Ratings for every player, Under-the-Radar Surgers for AVG, HR, Ks, plus daily DFS Cheat Sheets, Lineup Picks, Expert Lineups, Stacks and Avoids.

Second Base (2B) Waiver Wire Pickups

Brock Holt (2B, 3B, OF - BOS) - Owned in 35% of Fleaflicker leagues

Few remember that Brock Holt was an All-Star in 2015, and despite a somewhat slow start to 2016 (.239/.310/.354) he has an opportunity to step in and make an immediate fantasy impact as the everyday left fielder for the Red Sox. After missing roughly six weeks with a concussion and the accompanying symptoms, Holt has burst back onto the scene. In his first three games back, he went 5-for-12 with three RBI, five runs scored and one big fly. Holt can be a particularly useful fantasy bench player, as his eligibility at multiple positions will allow you to plug him into the lineup when your starters have a day off.

Trea Turner (2B - BOS) - Owned in 21% of Fleaflicker leagues

Just when you thought Turner had a shot to start in the bigs, Danny Espinosa decided to become the one of the hottest hitters in the MLB--enough so that he has all but locked up the starting shortstop gig for the foreseeable future. With Daniel Murphy occupying second base, the Nationals have been getting creative in coming up with ways to use Turner. He's been getting some time in the outfield in AAA Syracuse, and with Michael Taylor being sent down on Monday the path could be clear for Turner. Dusty Baker has hinted that it may not be a permanent demotion for Taylor, so the situation should still be monitored, but the Nationals could certainly use the on-base help that Turner brings to the table given the terrible production they've gotten out of Taylor and Ben Revere. The heavily-touted prospect is definitely worth a prospective add at the All Star Break.

More Options: Brett Lawrie (38%), Javier Baez (33%), Martin Prado (31%), Whit Merrifield (24%), Yangervis Solarte (11%), Brad Miller (10%)

Shortstop (SS) Waiver Wire Pickups

Tim Anderson (SS - CHW) - Owned in 21% of Fleaflicker leagues

The South Siders' prized prospect has not disappointed in his first stint in the majors, hitting .308 with 17 runs scored, eight RBI, four homers and two steals in his first 104 at bats. In points leagues, that's good enough to make him a serviceable replacement option at SS or middle infield--he'd provide more value if not for his comically lopsided 1:33 BB/K ratio. In leagues that don't count strikeouts, Anderson is bordering on top-12 at the position. Ironically enough, he hasn't really done much in the steals department, even though his speed was the main weapon he used in the minors. The four homers are also out of character, so don't expect that level of power to continue. For now though, sit back and let the rookie dazzle for your team.

Didi Gregorius (SS - NYY) - Owned in 18% of Fleaflicker leagues

So how 'bout this: across his last 30 games, Did Gregorius has more hits than Xander Bogaerts, Francisco Lindor, and Brandon Crawford (all of whom have at least 90 at bats in that span). That's not a perfect stat, but the point is Sir Didi is en fuego at the moment. He's also put on a little power display with three homers in his last six games. Playing his games at Yankee Stadium means he has a very really shot at 15-18 homers on the season (he has nine already), and he's got enough speed to reach 10-12 steals. If he is able to keep his average somewhere around where he's at now, you're looking at a .280/15/10 shortstop--sign me up.

More Options: Jose Reyes (37%), Javier Baez (33%), Zack Cozart (31%), Ketel Marte (20%), Asdrubal Cabrera (16%), Brad Miller (10%)
