Week 15 Wide Receivers: Waiver Wire Pickups, Adds & Playoff Matchups

By Mike Morris (Flickr) [CC-BY-SA-2.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsIf you’re reading this, chances are good you’re still alive in your fantasy football playoffs. If so, congratulations! Now is not the time to fall asleep on the waiver wire. Your team can ALWAYS be better, so let’s get to this week’s wide receivers.

Below I will take a look at some Week 15 wide receiver waiver wire pickups and sleepers, based on their current ownership numbers and fantasy outlooks.

Each week of the fantasy football season, I’ll also give you a bonus player to avoid (usually someone who might be a popular pickup that I disagree with).

Fantasy Football Wide Receivers (WR) - Week 15

Charles Johnson (MIN)—Owned in 8% of Fleaflicker leagues

Cordarrelle who? Johnson has sneakily become the number one passing option for the Minnesota Vikings, as he has definitively earned Teddy Bridgewater’s trust. Johnson has produced a 15-283-2 line over his last four games, and has become a viable PPR option. Most importantly is that he’s leading the team in targets by a healthy margin, meaning the opportunities are going to be there. If you are desperate in the playoffs, you could do worse for sure, but temper your expectations for Week 15 as the Vikings take on the fierce Lions defense.

Baller Move: Add in all PPR leagues/deep standard leagues

Chris Hogan (BUF)—Owned in 3% of Fleaflicker leagues

Hogan is most certainly not the guy you’re looking for if you’re trying for that home run-hitter. Kyle Orton has been particularly timid with his throws lately, which has yielded success for Hogan, a possession and dump-off specialist. To start him in standard leagues, you’re gambling on a touchdown, which isn’t all that unlikely given his usage. He could be useful regardless in a PPR league however, as he’s averaging around five catches for 40 yards in his last five games.

Baller Move: Add in deep PPR leagues/monitor in standard leagues

Doug Baldwin (SEA)—Owned in 36% of Fleaflicker leagues

Baldwin put up an impressive Week 14, hauling in five passes for 97 yards and a score. Baldwin has been a victim of game flow lately, as when the Seahawks have success running the ball they stick with the ground game. I don’t see them having such an easy time of it against the 49ers in Week 15, which I think will mean Russell Wilson needs to throw. When Wilson is throwing, Baldwin is his primary target. Expect a decent showing from Baldwin in Week 15.

Baller Move: Add in deep PPR/deep standard leagues

Marqise Lee (JAC)—Owned in 11% of Fleaflicker leagues

This is more of a speculative/matchup add than a locked-in season-saver. Lee is, in my opinion, the safest fantasy option in the Jacksonville passing offense, as Cecil Shorts lives and dies with the deep ball. Lee has outperformed Shorts significantly in the last three games, and I think he will continue to do so in Allen Robinson’s absence. Lee is definitely talented, and Bortles will continue to throw against a lackluster Ravens secondary in Week 15. I say roll the dice if you need a miracle.

Baller Move: Add in deep PPR leagues/deep standard leagues

Wide Receiver To Avoid

Jarius Wright (MIN)—Owned in 2% of Fleaflicker leagues

Wright busted out a huge line in Week 14, reeling in four catches for 123 yards and a touchdown against a suspect Jets secondary. Don’t be fooled by the fat stat line though—this is just Wright’s second game all season scoring double-digit fantasy points in standard leagues. Wright is a nice possession receiver, but this is no legitimate fantasy addition, particularly for the playoffs. I still have no faith in Teddy Bridgewater as a fantasy stud-maker, and even if he is capable of that the stud is going to be Charles Johnson. The Vikings also aren’t going to play the Jets every week either, so look elsewhere even if you’re desperate.
