Week 19 Outfield (OF) Waiver Wire Targets
Bradley Zimmer, OF, Cleveland Indians (42% owned)
It’s a good thing that Zimmer’s ownership rate is starting to pick up, because I’m running out of ways to explain why you should be rostering him. The Indians’ rookie is seventh among all outfielders over the last two weeks and 22nd over the last 30 days, per Yahoo rankings. That’s despite not having a hit yet in August. He’s on a 20/30 full-season pace with a solid batting average and run production. What more do you need? Get this man above the 50 percent cutoff!
Nick Williams, Philadelphia Phillies (19%)
Williams has been a four-category contributor in his first month-plus of major league action. Even after going 0-for-4 at Coors Field on both Saturday and Sunday, the 23-year-old is hitting .289/.325/.535 with five home runs, 14 runs, and 22 RBI in 30 games. He’s primarily hit in the middle of the order for the Phillies, who have been scoring at a respectable pace in recent weeks. Williams’ plate approach makes him vulnerable to slumps, but until that happens, enjoy the ride.
Jarrod Dyson, OF, Seattle Mariners (18%)
Dyson missed a few games with a hyperextended toe a couple weeks back, but it hasn’t stopped him from stealing five bases in the nine games since his return to the lineup. He now leads the American League with 27 thefts on the season. Typically you don’t get anything else from him unless your league counts defense, but Dyson already has a career-best five homers and 54 runs scored. He’s finally playing close to every day after years of being a fourth outfielder, and seems to be enjoying it.
Cameron Maybin, OF, Los Angeles Angels (18%)
Despite a knee injury keeping him out of play since July 18, Maybin still held a share of the AL lead in stolen bases until Dyson’s binge this week. He started a rehab assignment over the weekend and figures to be activated early this week. Ben Revere has filled in admirably, but expect Maybin to resume everyday duties in left once he returns. Hopefully he’ll resemble the hitter we saw in May and June more so than the one from April and (an abbreviated) July.
Rajai Davis, OF, Oakland Athletics (16%)
Well, you opened the right article if you’re in the market for speed. Like the last two players we discussed, Davis offers elite speed without much else most of the time. Luckily for you, he’s also got things working at the plate lately. While the steals (nine, to be exact) are driving his top-15 ranking among outfielders over the last 30 days, Davis is also hitting .326 with three homers in that time. That lofty perch is all the more impressive given that Davis doesn’t play every day. Obviously you’ll need to monitor his status daily, but his recent production is worth the effort.
