Week 24 Waiver Wire: First Base (1B) and Third Base (3B)

If you play in a head-to-head league, chances are you’re entering into the first week of the playoffs today. Your entire season hangs in the balance. Those of you in rotisserie leagues have a bit more runway to work with, but as the end of the year approaches, every at-bat takes on added importance.

Fortunately, as we have all season long, RotoBaller has all the tools you need to bring home a championship. After reading about this week’s corner infield adds, head over to the Waiver Wire Wizard for even more analysis.

Week 24 Corner Infield Waiver Wire Targets

Logan Forsythe, 1B/2B, Tampa Bay Rays (51 percent owned)

We’re stretching slightly past the usual cutoff point on this one for three reasons. First, Forsythe is on fire right now. He’s hit .362/.483/.574 with three homers over the last two weeks. Second, he’s got an .879 OPS on the road this year and is spending his week at Rogers Centre and Camden Yards. Finally, the opposing starting pitchers in these matchups have all been quite mediocre lately, with the exception of Marcus Stroman.

Jose Reyes, 3B/SS, New York Mets (45 percent)

Coming off the worst season of his career and a domestic violence charge during the winter, it’s safe to say not many expected a useful fantasy season out of Reyes. That possibility only became more remote when Trevor Story took the league by storm in April. Since being reunited with the Mets, though, Reyes has flourished. He’s hitting .276/.330/.459 on the season, with six homers, eight steals, and 33 runs scored in just 43 games. With 10 games against the Braves and Phillies down the stretch, Reyes figures to continue producing.

Jung-ho Kang, 3B/SS, Pittsburgh Pirates (45 percent)

Since returning from a shoulder injury last week, Kang is 12-for-27 with four homers and 16 R+RBI. He’s been in and out of the lineup with various bumps and bruises all season, and it remains to be seen what happens with the sexual assault allegations directed at him earlier this year. For now, though, Kang is swinging a red-hot bat and will face the Reds and Phillies on the road this week. He deserves a spot on any roster.

Yulieski Gurriel, 3B, Houston Astros (20 percent)

Gurriel is hitting .339/.365/.542 with three home runs and a stolen base since being promoted to the majors last month. All of that category juice has come in his last five games. The Astros have not only found everyday at-bats for him, they’ve been slotting him in the middle of the order. If he keeps hitting like this, that won’t change. This is a huge week for the Astros’ playoff chances, as they’ll face the Rangers and Mariners. Most of the pitcher matchups are favorable.

Ryon Healy, 3B, Oakland Athletics (2 percent)

Over the last month, Healy has hit .355/.388/.559 with four homers and 22 R+RBI. As a prospect, he didn’t flash enough pop to profile as a regular at a corner infield spot. However, Healy is one of several players who have embraced the idea of adjusting his swing path. By adding a bit more of a uppercut, Healy has tapped into more power, and he’s done so without too much of a spike in strikeouts. He has 22 homers this year between the majors and minors after only hitting 26 in the previous two season combined, at High-A and Double-A.
