Week 6 Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: NBA Guards

Here we are in the early days of the second month of the NBA season, and each week RotoBaller is the place to check if you are thoroughly scouring the fantasy basketball waiver wire in search of potential sleepers at either of the guard positions.

Waiver Wire Guard for Right Now

Greivis Vasquez (TOR, PG/SG) - 32% Owned

When he gets the playing time, Vasquez has proven to be a solid source of points and assists. He always seems to end up in a bench role, eventually, probably due to his efficiency issues, and that limits his value in the fantasy world. Such was the case this year, as Vasquez once again found himself in a backup role. Then DeMar DeRozan got hurt, and Vasquez has found himself in the Raptors' starting five.

Over the last week, Vasquez has averaged 16.5 points, 5.3 assists and 2.5 threes per game. He has seems to have a green light to shoot, and those numbers scream must-start player. If Vasquez has been slept on in your league, and at a 29-percent ownership rate there is a good chance he has, grab him ASAP.

Waiver Wire Guard in Deep Leagues

Wesley Johnson (LAL, SG/SF) - 34% Owned

Johnson is not great at any one thing, but he is solid in various categories. If you are looking for a guy who offers a little bit of everything, he may be your man.

Yes, he got off to a slow start and is playing on a terrible Lakers team that seems willing to watch Kobe Bryant chuck shot after shot, but Johnson has strung together three solid games in a row, offering double-digit points and a handful of rebounds, steals and blocks. This type of production is no fluke, as Johnson and Paul Millsap were the only NBA players to offer owners at least one trey, steal and block per game last season. That is pretty good company.

Waiver Wire Guard to Keep an Eye On

Tony Wroten (PHI, PG) - 49% owned

I was convinced that Wroten would drastically lose value once Michael Carter-Williams returned to the Sixers' lineup, especially after Head Coach Brett Brown publicly criticized the priors efficiency issues. However, Wroten has been able to remain productive. More importantly, he has been able to remain a starter.

The Sixers are probably best with Wroten coming off of the bench, but in the world of tanking, that means nothing. There is a good chance he has been dropped in your league, especially after missing a couple of games with a sore knee. If so, Wroten can help you if you are in need of points, assists and steals.

Wroten is going to hurt your field-goal percentage, be no help in threes and amass turnovers at an alarming rate, but if you can withstand those deficiencies, it may be time to give him a look.
