Week 9 Tight End (TE) Rankings Analysis
By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)
I’m still a bigger Martellus Bennett fan than most, and I have him at TE5 this week. He is still averaging over eight targets a game, and while it hasn’t exactly led to a whole lot yet, I think that is more likely to change. Bennett has at least 11 targets in three of the last four games. Especially with Eddie Royal out, I think he continues to see plenty of targets and it’s going to lead to solid production.
I’m a little low on Antonio Gates this week at TE6. It’s true that Ladarius Green is likely out, but this is still a tough matchup. The Bears are allowing the 5th fewest points to tight ends. Last week’s four-for-56 line is what we are probably looking at, but with a better chance to score here.
The big wild card of the week is Vernon Davis. He will be active, but it’s hard to say what we can expect. One thing is for sure: even in his first week as a Bronco, his upside is way higher than what it’s been in San Francisco.
Over the last two seasons, a span of twenty games, Davis has just two touchdowns and 22 yards per game. He has a real chance to become a decent touchdown threat again, even despite Peyton’s struggles this season. If you lack a good tight end, Davis is worth taking a chance on.
