Jayson Werth is hoping to rejoin the Washington Nationals from the DL on August 1, according to the Washington Post.
The Nats’ outfielder suffered a wrist injury after he was drilled by a pitch on May 15. The 36-year-old has had a tough-go of it this season. Werth has only played in 27 games this season. He was dealing with a suspension to start 2015 and now a long stint on the DL. Despite that, he’s positive he will be back eventually.
"My goal is to be back with the club August 1," Werth told the Post. "Whether it's realistic or not I don't know. Everyone heals at their own rate. I've been assured that when it stops hurting I'll be good to go. I'll let pain be my guide."
Werth's left wrist is in a splint after he was diagnosed with two small fractures. He will be immobilized for about a month.
In the games he has played in this season, he had a .208 BA with 2 HR and 12 RBI.
