Wide Receiver Outlooks: Donte Moncrief, Allen Hurns and Rishard Matthews

There have not been many bright spots for the Indianapolis Colts thus far this season, but one bright spot for the team has been wide receiver Donte Moncrief. Moncrief has been playing great throughout the season with 56 catches for 669 yards and five touchdowns.

Not only has Moncrief been playing great this season, he has solidified his spot as a starting receiver for the Colts for several seasons to come.

Unfortunately, Moncrief may not be around to help his fantasy football owners during the playoffs. He was not seen on practice with the Colts on Wednesday due to a foot injury. In fact, the receiver has been seen wearing a walking boot this week.

Considering he has been seen in a walking boot, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be able to play this week against the Houston Texans. If he does play, I would consider him a very risky WR3. There’s a chance the team would only be playing him as a decoy.

Another wide receiver that has likely helped a ton of teams reach the fantasy football playoffs this year is Jacksonville Jaguars’ Allen Hurns. Unfortunately, just like Moncrief, Hurns did not practice on Wednesday. However, Hurns seems to have a much better chance at playing than Moncrief.

Hurns is dealing with a thigh injury, but the injury didn’t seem to hurt him last week when he hauled in three passes for over 100 yards and a touchdown.

Hurns has had a wonderful season thus far with 51 receptions for 863 yards and eight touchdowns. Not only has he established himself as a starter for the Jags for years to come, he has established himself as one of the best young receivers in the entire league.

I would consider Hurns a WR2 against the Atlanta Falcons this week.

The Miami Dolphins may have receiver Rishard Matthews back for Week 15 against the San Diego Chargers. Matthews has been out of action with a ribs injury.

When he was healthy, Matthews was flying under the radar with 43 receptions for 662 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games.

It is not clear yet whether or not Matthews will actually play. If he does, I would peg him in as a high-end WR4. If he doesn’t play, DeVante Parker can be considered a WR4 in his place.

Parker has 13 receptions for 208 yards and two touchdowns thus far this season.
