ANALYSIS: Wil Myers has been plagued by an inability to play a full season so far in his young career. The hype for Myers began to build in 2013 when he hit 13 home runs and batted .293 in 88 games with the Tampa Bay Rays. The future was his for the taking. Instead, Myers followed his impressive rookie year with only 87 and 60 games played in his next two seasons, both of which saw a drop in production and average. However, Myers still has all the talent to earn him a breakout candidate nod.
Myers is capable of being a five-tool player and has already begun to display his power and speed this season with his two home runs and one stolen base. He is hitless in his last nine at-bats, but Myers has a ton of upside and should be rostered, even if he remains on the bench. His ground ball percentage is down 13% and his fly ball percentage is up 10% from last season. His line drive percentage has also increased. Soon, we can hope, more of his fly balls will start leaving the yard on a more consistent basis. Myers is a solid pickup with a long overdue coming out party.
