ANALYSIS: Wil Myers is coming off a very disappointing 2019 season where his strikeout rate rose to a career-high 34.3% while his batting average fell to a career-low .239. While those were both disappointing stats, Myers was still able to power his way to 18 home runs and 16 stolen bases. Myers has been a consistent power and speed staple for Fantasy Baseball teams and still did not disappoint in those regards.
Entering the 2020 season, there were many questions surrounding Myers playing time with the Padres. They had an extremely crowded outfield, as well as Eric Hosmer, locked in at first base. The outfield situation has quickly been fixed as Manuel Margot, Hunter Renfroe, and now Franchy Cordero have all been traded. The addition of the universal DH has also helped free up playing time for Myers.
Myers is now projected to hit sixth in the Padres’ lineup and play every day in right field. If he can return to his 27-28% strikeout rate, he will see his average likely come back as well. He did have a career-best 11.7% barrel rate and a 40.7% hard-hit rate in 2019, so he is hitting the ball the hardest he ever has in his career. He was also still running and just needs a little more plate discipline to get back to the Myers we knew for years. Myers is a great waiver wire add as he can give you a potential 10/10 season.
